What does the Bible say...

A Merry Heart

In Proverbs 17:22, the Bible says, “A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.”

A merry heart can also mean a cheerful, happy or joyful heart. So, in a way the writer is saying that, the person who maintains a joyful heart may not be sick often or can recover quickly from diseases.

If that is the case, then to develop a healthy lifestyle, we must do all we can to maintain a happy and joyous heart. We must all do our ultimate best to ignore, reduce or eliminate altogether the things that bring bitterness.

I have come to understand that the people who concentrate on making others happy end up becoming happier themselves. I have also observed that it does not cost very much either to be happy or to make other people happy.

Therefore, to live a healthy lifestyle,  we must first and foremost try constantly to fill our minds and hearts with joyful memories. Secondly, we must regularly remember these occasions.  If we do not have enough store of cheerful memories then we must begin to create some merry moments by doing some of the things we enjoy doing.

Finally, we must focus on making other people happy, by so doing we increase our bank of cheerful deposits, from which we can redraw in times of need.

On a scale of 1-10 how will you rate your joyfulness level?
